Damn. It isn't really a problem returning it, but this was the last card at the store for the $99 price. I guess I'll just have to newegg it and wait patiently. I'll see if anyone else comes up with other ideas first, but I thank you for the reply.

Specs: Athlon X2 5600+ Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 Mobo 3gbs DDRII 800mhz Thermaltake 550watt PSU

Alright, so I'm trying to replace an old 7600gt with a Visiontek Radeon 4850. I uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers, swapped cards, plugged in a 6 pin connector to the card, and booted with no post (no mobo beeps or anything like that). The red light on the back of the card is steadily flashing, and the fan sounds like it's going at 100%.

If I put my 7600gt back in, everything works fine. I then decided to unplug every power connector except the one to the hard drive and the cpu fan. The 4850 card now switches between full fan spin, no display mode, and sometimes weaves into the fan slowing down and showing me something (a boot screen, and if i let it sit until windows is supposed to boot, a grey screen with bars going vertically across it). I'm almost hesitant to give you that information, because I don't want power issues to be the answer. I spent money on the supply months ago fairly confident it would be powerful enough to charge a dated system with a 4850 when i bought the new card.

One last thing to note - my mobo does have onboard gpu, but in the bios it is set to "enable/peg" mode, which is the closest option you can get to disabled. I appreciate any help!

Unless you have speakers built onto your monitor and you have hooked it up to your soundcard, or your tower (for some reason) has a speaker built on the inside (which I've never seen a tower case have), you shouldn't be getting sound. If headphones work, than that means there isn't a problem. Why don't you just get some cheap external speakers?

[QUOTE="crunchUK"]halo 3 and bioshock single player... and SMG single player >>>> uncharted single player. at least i think soBaurus_1

Halo 3 is not even in the same league.

Bioshock is great, that's true.

SMG (and most Wii games) are made for little children.

Which is why it won game of the year in so many places?

Why do people think console hardware specifications apply to PC system requirements? The hardware of a console will have way better performance in a game than a PC with equal components. The RAM argument is used all the time and usually doesn't become that apparent until the close of the generation.

I'd say if you were to look at just the Citadel you could make that argument. The game doesn't look consistently that amazing though, and with the technical problems you can't really say it's better.

BTW, anyone who says MGS takes intellectual intelligence is probably within the age group of 12-16 and/or has never read a book or seen a good film in their life. Once you get past the plot twists that come every 5five seconds you realize how ridiculous and stupid the plot is (MGS2 is a especially a mess). Anyway, as far as the gameplay goes, I think MGS games make a really amazing first impression. When you play through it the first time the gameplay is really there for you to get to the next cutscene. Once you've completed the game and skip all the cutscenes on the next playthroughs, you realize how shallow the gameplay is, and how short the game is.

lowering resolution will all ways make a game look worse

markop2003

Hey guys. I hear all of these people saying "lower your resolution for crysis, play it very high 12X10".

So I did that, and the result, something sub par to my normal 1680X1050 all High. Maybe its my monitor.

22' Syncmaster 226BW.

Is this an LCD issue? Or an issue with all monitors?

spam-Robot

That's the whole point of lowering a resolution. You sacrifice some visual quality for better performance. In the case of Crysis, some people prefer a lower resolution that may look grainier, but will allow them to turn on other visual goodies like high shaders, high textures, etc..
