1. Gothic Action RPGs in a kind-of open environment, lush scenery and oozing athmosphere? No, I'm not talking Morrowind or Oblivion here. Or any other Elder Scrolls game. Compared to this, they can eat dust. Gothic is a game so challenging that it is scaringly underrated in some places. Even here on GameSpot the reviews are botched somewhat. It doesn't care much for black or white as in good or bad alone, or doesn't care so much about being politically correct. It's quite good at showing off what people really are like. 2. Ultima Underworld It's the kind of game I wish I could live in. Have my own place, settle down, beat up monsters whenever I want and when I'm not in the mood dungeoncrawling around and discover new secret doors - I'll just hang around my friends in my own faction. I won't go and list Deus Ex, System Shock One or Two nor Ultima 7 here because too much Warren Spector or Richard Gariott goodness will clog the list. 3. Wing Commander 2 It was more about the story and storytelling rather than the flying itself, but it was by far more interesting than the Wing Commander games with real actors, even though I really adore some of said characters and their actors (Paladin for example). 4. Wizardry 8 Or even Wiz 7. I cannot help it. I love western style roleplaying games to death! It's amazing they have so many fans and still aren't really in production anymore. At least there's nothing much like them nowadays. Gosh, this game has even mountains of fans in Japan! There's an anime for Wizardry! 5. Broken Sword Adventure games rule! And Broken Sword is a prime example of why that is. Lucasarts isn't the only company to make good games of the sort. I'm looking forward to Broken Sword 4 and the fan-made Broken Sword 2.5. 5.
