[QUOTE="sonsofliberty84"]This is not a Halo bashing post, just the fact that Google decided it was important enough to put on their siteIronBass
That's not how it works. The reason the review was listed there was probably because the Gamepro review got a massive ammounts of visits, a making it "relevant". Google does not "decide" anything.

I beg to differ. Google is the law.

[QUOTE="Wubba"]

[QUOTE="trakem"]

The network that you are using is actually the internet when you contact you friends on XBL. It's not it's own network infrastructure. That's why you need a high speed internet connection to make it work. If it was it's own network, then I'd say hell yes it's worth it. As for I-phone, it is it's own actual network. That said, I'll agree that it's probably not worth it.

Brownesque

Xbox Live is exactly what you're saying it's not. It's its own network infrastructure that serves you data and services. Data and services that I feel are worth paying for. The server farm for Xbox Live is immense with a huge support, development and IT team to maintain. None of which is cheap and therefore the price. Now, Microsoft could indeed provide a lesser service like we see with PSN and for many that is just fine. But unified services, fast downloads, and continual improvements (Netflix, 1080p download, etc) are worth 4 dollars a month in my book.

Notice how none of their server farms actually host the games you play? Notice how online game hosting is the only thing you pay for? Notice how the hosting of your online matches is carried out by players, using physical infrastructure they own and a service they are paying for (internet access)? They ask you to pay for the use of those thing. You know, to sweeten the deal. For them, that is. It sweetens the deal for Microsoft, get it? I mean, honestly. The unified service isn't difficult, it's called a closed platform with a closed network. Ta da. Unified service achieved. Unfortunately that is about as useful as it is an accomplishment. The fast downloads are paid for already in the royalties you pay Microsoft in the form of increased download costs, and "improvements" such as "Netflix" are already available to Netflix subscribers, for free, on the PC or Mac platform. Literally, you pay more for Netflix via Xbox Live than any other method. A PC user that is a Netflix subscriber can download a free application and get streaming movies instantly whereas Xbox Live users both have to be Netflix subscribers and Xbox Live Gold subscribers to get the same functionality.

QFT.

EDIT:

I use a COWON S9 player. FLAC FTW! (and sometimes 320k mp3 for songs I kinda like :D) Death to ipod.
