we're never going to get past this issue if we keep bringing it up over and over. we'll be hearing it's still not fair, it's still not fair, it's still not fair for another hundred years. my question is, when will it officially be fair? what legislation must be enacted to make it fair? what system should be in place to make it fair? how will we know when it's finally fair?comp_atkins

Maybe more like "Slavery is old news, you weren't alive during segregation, so stop crying and life is good", that's what I mostly got from this thread. Did things suddenly get better after hundreds of years of slavery? What does it matter if nobody alive was once a slave? Is that when you think inequality was done away with? There are many people today who were alive during segregation, do you think they got a fair share of the American dream? The children of said people are now magically not affected by those hundreds of years of oppression? You don't think that there are still anyinjusticesthat black america faces today?

My parents weren't rich. My grandparents weren't rich. My great-grandparents weren't rich. I was affected by them not being rich and therefore deserve special treatment from people who had rich parents or were born into better households.
