If you want to focus on gaming then you better take into consideration all the arcade games because many of those games provide more well thought out gaming than a lot of the big budget pretty games.
Baldurs Gate 2 for me. I never tried Planescape but it does get a high rating with people that I think also like the Baldur's Gate series. So it's very possible I'd vote for that game as my number 1 if I had ever played it. Next best is Diablo 2.
