If you're serious about getting into the series.... I think you have to start with Metal Gear Solid for the ps1. It's 10 bucks on the PSN, and worth every penny. I think that if you're a hardcore gamer it's almost a must. Afterwards pick up the HD collection and then MGS4. Honestly, it's my favorite series of all time, and I'm a picky mofo. You can't go into it half-hearted though; it's so in depth and epic that one missed story bite is a death sentence when playing through MSG4. Yes, MGS is a ps1 title and will look like poop, but it's 12-15 hours of your life, and all you're trying to do is get the story. but it's vital. And don't skip MGS3 just b/c it's a back story. Still a must. Love this series, give it a shot.

[QUOTE="FoxAlive01"]None of your options are good, let me tell you. Sending a ps3 back to Sony is tough since they charge you an arm and a leg, and they can't guarantee a fix. My roommate lost his ps3 and a disc he had inside after Sony tried to repair it but failed. Let's just hope that you had an external hardrive.... When mine finally passed away in March after 5 years, I was unaware of the necessity of having your HD backed up on an external. I lost all of my saves, including the 147 hours I had just been putting into Skyrim. Good luck to you friend.FoxAlive01

Wow, so they still charge you $150 even if it can't be fixed? Sad to say, I don't have a external backup, but the only real save I had going on was Valkryie Chronicles, and that should be saved in the cloud.

I suspect I can redownload all my previous purchases at no cost. Does anyone know if this is true?

Whoops. Anyway, yes, you can redownload all of your old purchases. The PSN keeps track of all of that through your SN.

Dreamcast. I had a Cube for years, and loved every second of it. However, it wasn't the N64 of it's time. Nothing matched the Dreamcast during it's reign in power and graphics. The Dreamcast was so far ahead of it's time; no console has been in that position since... unfortunately it was trumped when the next generations of systems launched.
