With HD Windwaker coing out it was kinda expected. Still glad to see him return to the game. Hopefully Toon and Traditional Link won't be clones this time around.

Makes sense I suppose, considering Pikmin never translated to handhelds ven in spinoffs (something even Pokemon did to consoles).

Indeed they did. The character roster is the same in both versions. They are probably just showing the WiiU version because it is the best looking version.
Here at GS? Any game scoring at least a 9.0 is in contention. The most recent 9.0 (at Gamespot) game I'm playing right now is Metro: Last Light. I find it fun. But, it doesn't quite feel like GOTY material to me.

GameSpot's scoring is fvcking broken. A game like Fire Emblem: Awakening gets 8.5 while Guacamelee! gets a 9. I'm not saying Guacamelee is bad, and I know all about the different reviewers, different systems shit, but their reviews have become seriously unreliable lately. A 7.5 for Pokemon Black and White? Are you kidding me, GameSpot? And that is exactly why I trust no reviews here on GS.
