Both games are excellent and a welcome addition to the their respective genres.

I didn't really like Oblivion, but am really enjoying Fallout 3. I don't really like the newer single player FPS (Crysis, etc.), but L4D is amazingly fun to play with other people.

If you can afford it, get both. They're very different.

No, do not buy it. People have been leaving in droves the past few months, servers are dead. The game is buggy, unfinished, and lacks content. Funcom's president recently sold many of his shares. It's a downward spiral, feel free to look at their official game forums, where you must be a subscriber to post. If you're looking for a new MMORPG, wait for Warhammer Online. It comes out Sept 18th and is a FUN, relatively bug free game with lots of content, and the RvR is great.
