@Korvus85 @chuckles471 Ok if youre trying to imply Joel was a contract killer he wasnt he most likely worked in some type of construction. If he was a contract killer HE would be the contractor, that is how it goes; its employer, contractor, target.
Also, all the people who say Joel made a "choose the damn the human race or sacrifice the kid" choice put too much stock into the whole cure/vaccine thing. Just because Joel saved Ellie doesnt mean the human race is doomed; hes not Commander Shepard and he didnt just choose the refuse ending. Humanity will continue on with or without a sacrificial lamb because (and lets be honest) there is no way the fireflies as weak and small as they are could be able to spread the cure with the military, bandits, hunters, and infected looking to cut them down. This is a handful of people who have lost the cells they had in the few military zones left and lost the zones the "liberated" to hunters. The only living fireflies you see in the story are in Salt Lake City and there is no way the fireflies in such a small number could synthesize a vaccine for every man, woman and child then safely transport it across the country as wild and vicious as it is. The military would most likely end up starting a purge like they did in Boston to quell their "we have a viable cure" propaganda, and the fireflies would most likely become tactical and only give the cure to their people and recruits because groups like Tommy's are isolated, hunters are hostile, and the military has a "shoot on sight" mindset when it comes to them.
Why does everyone seem to dislike Joel? Yes Joel has been a bandit, he is a criminal (in the post infection world Tom) but he does have some morals and he is loyal. He may be hardened and gruff but he is the product of the circumstances he has been forced to live in. Also saving Ellie wasnt exactly a bad thing, she wasnt a cure she was a a steppingstone to a POSSIBLE vaccine which might not have been created due to limited resources and lack of skilled staff; sacrificing a loved one with no absolutes isnt something most people would do. People like Tommy and his community are rebuilding and thats hope enough for the future because a possibility of a cure 10, 20, 30 years down the line wont stop infected from killing people and whose to say that the vaccine will work then Ellie's sacrifice would have been in vain. Humanity will rebuild with or without some "maybe vaccine".
@deond You have to remember she has gotten older, wherever she went after witch hunt didnt stop her aging plus she has had a kid on top of that. For a single mom in some shadow realm for 5 years she still looks good.
