@ChubbyGuy40 You say there are tons of games that are better but you dont name any. And how many people play is irrelevant...it's about the game itself.
My server is full by the way....there is no room for new people at the moment. The game if far from dying. The thing also is; you pay once and you can go and play whenever you feel like it...so people dont feel like they HAVE to play it cause they payed for a subscription...they play when the want to and how much they want to.
Oh and by the way....Guild Wars 1 is also still running.
GW 2 is a well deserved winner (and an actual PC game). Your game didnt win or you havn't played GW2? Well that doesnt make GW2 a bad game. These are just the opinions of the Gamespot staff...thats right OPINIONS.
Guild Wars 2 shines in many aspects. The artstyle and graphics are amazing and have lots of character, the gameworld looks sublime and some of the cities are jaw dropping in design and detail. The dynamic events system is a breath of fresh air and worked out really well. The PVP is set up so everyone of every level can partake, and every week you get matched up with different servers and the fact that it's server versus server makes you feel more connected to your server. The fact that your scaled to lower level areas make questing in those valuable and worth the while to do. The exploration is great and so are the jumping puzzles the game offers. The fact that it is less about roles make it easier to go out with parties into dungeons, no more "We only need class so and so". All the loot drops are personal and so are quest drops/items so there is no "stealing" and it goes for gathering aswell making it so there is less irritation and people help eachother more then in other MMO's. The game has a great way of making people work together. Each race start with it's own story and even has different stories depending on what choices you make when you create your character. And all of them are so unique from eachother. They also have some different skills when it comes to classes making every warrior a bit different when it comes to race. And then there are the branching story lines that make playing a second character more fun cause you can actually go out and do stuff you didnt get to the on the last playthrough, plus there are several different quest zones you can actually take so you never actually have to do the same zones twice in a second or even a third playthrough.
So to all the naggers....GW 2 deserves it and there is no (exclussive) PC game of 2012 that is more impressive then this game.
@spirit_obscura Because The Witcher 2 was nominated last year. It came out for PC in may 2011. The Xbox 360 version a year later. I understand that they didnt nominate it again. The PC version is the best version anyways.
