It depends. Certain features like EAX, Dolby Digital and DTS usually neccesitate a dedicated sound card. I've been rolling with an X-fi Fatality for a few years and it has performed very well in giving me great sound for games and movies. My PC is plugged into my TV and a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker set. Since the PC doubles in a Home Theatre role I've needed the dedicated sound card, particularly if I'm watching DVD or Blu-Ray with DTS or Dolby Digital audio. For gaming the need for the card has been mixed; when games support EAX it's been great but not a lot of titles seem to require it for the higher end audio quality. Additionally many motherboards now have on-board 5.1 that's pretty good in it's own right. In fact a few of the ASUS Rampage line have an X-fi card integrated into the board. In the end if you plan on watching a lot of movies, using your PC as a stereo, and wanting to exploit higher-end audio features when available, a good sound card can be a worthy investment. I would highly recommend checking the sound capabilities of your motherboard before looking to buy a card, and then by heavily researching the cards you're interested in. Some X-fi users have had nightmarish results, same with ASUS Xonar users. Just do your homework and you'll be fine.

Stay on topic. If you want to talk like that go on system wars. This is pc hardware, keep your petty arguments out please.

tell that to that @sshole

sorry im on my fifth day without a cigarette :xim a little pissy and irritable lol forums probably arent where i should be right now haha

I've seen how that works out. Been underway when the cigs run out and the ship's store isn't restocked. There's murder in some of those dudes' eyes.

2x GTX 470s plugged into the TV and still puttering along fine. Checking some of the specs from the new Nvidia line coupled with the price not seeing a real impetus to upgrade. Not to mention haven't encountered a game that's forced me too. Certain that day is fast approaching though. Will prolly give it some time; wait for the prices to drop.

Had it pre-ordered the moment I saw it. The Boshin War has never been touched in games and is a spectacularly fascinating piece of Japanese history. What makes it even more amazing for me is living in Japan now I can see the very places where these historic events played out; as well as see their legacy. Case in point, Odaiba up in Tokyo was originally a series of forts built by the Tokugawa to defend Edo harbor from the return of Perry's "Black Ships". I am supremely psyched. Just need to burn through Mass Effect 3 so I'm ready for the game's arrival.

Dawn of War most definetely. I'm all for nostalgia and Starcraft still remains one of the best games installed on my PC; however that said the mechanics like those of Command & Conquer just get boring after awhile. It's a race in multiplayer to see who can rush first with the most firepower. Exciting the first few times indeed but after you zergling rush for the ten zillionth time it gets old. Please don't misunderstand both SC and C&C are games very close to my heart; if it were not for them I would not be the major PC Gamer I am today and SC 2 looks freaking awesome ^_^. That said based on gameplay alone I go with Dawn of War. Starcraft while fun, lacks the visceral feel of warfare thats depicted in it's cutscenes. At no point do I see a Terran skewer a Protoss Zealot with a chain sword (or vice versa). Dawn of War FORCES action not sitting behind impregnable base defenses and turtling across the map, nor does it allow for early rushes easily. It's very well balanced and each side truly is unique. I'm all for the Tau and their highly structured battle line ethos that requires me to think very quickly and reorganize if my flanks are hit, or if they bring up armor, or a close quarter melee ensues....none of which I had to do in SC. In SC it was group select and pound a unit or structure with all the firepower at my disposal. Granted there are some moments of finess such as doing a hit and run with some Wraiths or doing an artillery barrage prior to an attack, but these moments are rarely seen sad to say. Does this have more to do with the players and less with the game? Maybe so, but the gameplay mechanics of DoW don't lend themselves very well to a group select bashfest. To that end I will continue to shout "For the Greater Good!" in my online battles more than "For Aiur!". I love my Starcraft, but I also love my rail guns :P
