On your second topic I'm always intrigued as to how people perceive Australians. I find those who think we're all like Steve Irwin to be a little sad/narrow minded actually. Pretty lame to base an entire country stereotype on a few characturised people rather than anything else we've done. Sadly we're probably more like Kath & Kim than we are Steve Irwin (although most Australian's wouldn't admit it) :)
That said I don't honesty believe people really see us all as Steve Irwin types. Not the majority anyway. But Steve Irwin is a fun/memey way of approaching Aussies. Like those imgur photos where someone posts a photo upside down and half the comments say "meanwhile, in Australia" :)
Depends on where you go. I've been all around the world and found that the majority don't see us like Steve Irwin's. They like our accents, but it's our easy going nature that they like the most. People in New York are notoriously difficult, but I found them really nice to be around and they loved helping 'us Ossies'.
