I agree that looking deep into the future, we don't know about a whole lot of major first party games other than Smash Bros and probably an animal crossing coming out on the Wii (oh and Wii Fit if you'd like to count that). While I'm sure Nintendo is hard at work on some stuff, Nintendo has always been known for saving all of its announcements for major events so for now I think we just have to hope that something awesome is on the way...
Nintendo has always had issues when it comes to third parties for one simple reason. Their first party games are awesome, making it less likely that people will spend money on other games. Basically, Nintendo fanatics like me ruin it for the third parties.
Edit: Forgot to mention Mario Kart Wii as well...
Despite the Wii's slow start into online multiplayer, which we all could have predicted after the gamecube and the slow start WiFi on the DS had, I think that a lot of the games which should have online multiplayer will in the future.
However, I think Nintendo is different in how they view what games should be online multiplayer. For example, Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Party 8 both had no online multiplayer. While there were some disappointed fans in both instances, I think they both demonstrate Nintendo's view that online multiplayer isn't always necessary. I know that if multiplayer was put in Metroid Prime 3, the single played adventure would have lost a good deal of development time and we would have a repeat of Metroid Prime 2 on our hands. And, of course, online Mario Party just isn't practical.
So I definitely agree that the Wii isn't a system which strongly focuses on online multiplayer, but I think in time we will be given enough of it to keep many Wii owners satisfied.
