@louixiii: Actually the Major is very explicitly Japanese. Why is it okay to cast someone Asian instead of someone specifically Japanese? Because "They all look the same"?

The whole thing about casting Scarlett Johansson instead of an Asian actor (I love how it could apparently be anyone from Asia to play someone who is Japanese; that's not racist ala "you all look the same" at all apparently) is overblown. It really doesn't matter at all. As far as the first movie and everything (excluding SAC 2nd GIG) is concerned it doesn't really matter that it takes place in Japan. You wouldn't even have to mention the country GitS plays in. It's different from other stories where the race of the character actually matters. A recent example is Idris Elba being cast as Roland from The Dark Tower series. No-one, I think, would reasonably dispute that Idris Elba is a great actor. But it changes things about the story, because race is a factor in the series. On the other hand a black woman being cast as Hermione Granger doesn't change anything important about Harry Potter. Race isn't a factor at all for the character. The character is clearly white in the books, but it doesn't matter at all. And I personally don't mind in any case. Sometimes it feels wrong though. Like Wally West being played by a black guy. I haven't read that much Flash, but I never saw race being a factor there. But Wally West always seemed like on of the whitest characters EVER to me.

On a related note: ANN Cast mentioned it in their recent episode. Did anyone complain when "All you need is Kill" (aka Edge of Tomorrow) was "whitewashed"? The original character, played by Tom Cruise in the adaptation, was Japanese. They made him an American Officer and I didn't read any hate about that?

What will kill this movie is twofold: 1. No-one asked for a live-action movie of GitS. There is a reason for that and the reason is, that Hollywood (or any other film producing place) has never succeeded in making a good Anime live-action adaptation. There are few well done game to movie adaptations and there is virtually no good Anime to live-action movie adaptation. 2. The writing will suck hardcore. GitS is a fairly complex story with a fairly complex world and background. If you don't commit to that with a good scriptwriter, with someone who cares about the Original it will fall flat. It's the same problem with e.g. the Sandman movie DC announced. It just screams "we want another generic action movie and we don't have a clue what the whole franchise actually is about"

@Jacen22 Yes, there are local female teams. Yes, they're less popular than the male teams virtually everywhere (except maybe the US) and yes there is likely no market for it. Not that there is such a big market for playing teams from Norway (no offense, Norwegians), but yeah you are essentially correct.

@razgriz_101 @Pre_ordered_PS4 All valid points, still doesn't change the fact that EA is releasing basically the same game every year, just some minor technical and licensing updates and apart from that doesn't do...anything.

@toddze First it's by far not only "liberals", but a lot of conservatives who blame violence on games. You're deluded if you think otherwise. Second, murders by use of guns US (2005): 10.000; UK(03/04): 73, Germany: 155. No it clearly has nothing to do with gun control laws *facepalm* Not even gonna go into these stupid comparisons...

Well must be tough to follow up storytelling masterpieces like Revelations and AC3...Just kidding...I think the storytelling in Revelations was terrible with a "twist" everyone knew was gonna happen from the very beginning of the game. What I liked about AC3 was that it once again emphasized the philosophical differences between Templars and Assassins but it still did it while being bad at storytelling. Some things were just not believable and the structure of the story (the "slow" prologue with Haythem, too little time spent on fleshing out the motivation of the targets) made it still subpar when compared to AC2 and ACB. Not to mention the Desmond plot which was just plain boring and unimaginative. Now AC doesn't have the worst story but the latest installments were a huge letdown storytelling and character wise.

So..again? I mean i get why Gamespot is releasing news like that, it gets a rise out of every gamer. But...did we still need proof that a lot of people in politics either do not get it or purposely turn a blind eye on the real reasons for violence? There is literally no proof linking gaming and acts of violence (except smashed gaming equipment). Everyone that claims they're gonna eradicate shootings by doing something about video games or violent movies is delusional and has no interest whatsoever in fact based policies.

Now I don't sell my used games, even tho I tend to not replay them once I'm truly done with them (all trophies/100% or things like that). But I buy a lot of used games and fail to see what it is that sets the game industry apart from the publishers of books or movies. You can buy and sell used books after reading, can't you? Why should the game industry be any different? Because I could theoretically copy the data? That's also true for DVDs and up until now I haven't read any proposals to limit the sales of used DVDs...

Ready? Maybe. Able? Maybe (the argument strangely enough seems to center around this point, providers, fast paced connections, downtimes). Willing? Certainly not. Why would a gamer want it? I get why people like to be online during gaming (chat, multiplayer and so on), but they choose to do that. What does a gamer who simply enjoys his single player experience gain? Nothing at all. He in fact loses the possibility to play if the connection isn't working as it is supposed to and becomes "transparent" to the eyes of the corporation. Why would anyone want that? I get why the corporations want it. Data is rather valuable. But the consumer? Let's say he gets stuff for free in exchange (new content, whatever). DLC showed us that this is just another way to cut content from the game so you can make money of it afterwards, sell it slice by slice. The reason why I will always oppose this and sooner would turn to old games on emulators than buy an always online console, is that it's just another way to get money for the publisher, even profit from your data AND may also infringe on your gaming experience. It's mind boggling why anyone thinks this is acceptable. You gain nothing and lose a lot.

@h1221292h Also Ignorance is Strength and War is Peace. In related news: Gaming is not a mass market.
