It's what Kevin said. I believe it was Gamespot Gameplay episode 37. He admitted that he probably would have given it a 10 if not for the slowdown in Blighttown.
So Kevin, which game do you like better? Dark Souls or Dark Souls 2?
I remember Kevin admitting on a podcast that he might have underrated the original Dark Souls at a 9.5. I imagine now that GS's half-point scores are gone, it was a tough choice for him between a 9 and a 10.
BTW, in case you wondering where I got the thing about Tom, it's from Gamespot Gameplay episode 37 (which also happens to be my favorite episode), around the 6:50-7:25 mark. I didn't know the exact time from the episode until I went back and listened, but I did remember it was from episode 37.
Is it cool or creepy that I knew that? Or both? :-P
But seriously, I've listened to every episode, and I'm very glad that the show's back from hiatus.
I don't get it... how do you do an episode of The Waiting Game without mentioning Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile? Or are those just so obvious that they weren't even worth mentioning? And if we're going back to Golden Axe, then what about Champions of Norrath and Titan Quest?
Also, Johnny is a PhD? He talked about doing his dissertation on Beowulf...
FWIW, this is still the best article I've read about either Demon's Souls or Dark Souls. It's a really fun read, and it really conveys the sense of why the games are both so great and -- at times -- so frustrating, and why those two aspects are intertwined.
The one thing I don't like about this trailer is that nothing is ever shown from the player's perspective, it was at some weird side angle every time (shots were also too zoomed-in, I kept wishing I could see more of what was going on). I suppose they thought it would look more dynamic that way. But I think it really would have been more effective to do most of the shots as they appear to the player.
Also, as has been mentioned, people should stop being so picky about graphics. It's not a graphical powerhouse and doesn't need to be. Starbound is my favorite game in a quite a while, and that one's 2D. The graphics for Dark Souls 2 are plenty good enough. But I also think the game'll look better when they stop using these zoomed-in shots for trailers.
I've had my eye on Starbound anyway, but it looks like I should just go ahead and buy it after you guys talked it up so much. Probably I'll get the four-pack and give copies to my friends.
