You cannot use SLI on a Crossfire MB or vise versa on a LGA 775 socket MB, but I know you can on some (if not most or all) LGA 1366 socket MBs. With your Duo Core CPU you're getting, it's a LGA 775 socket, so either you get a MB that supports Crossfire or SLI, but not both. You'd have to step up to an i7 CPU and MB for that option. If you don't plan on running more then one video card, then you can a Nvidia GPU with a MB that supports Crossfire. You just cannot run 2 or more Nvidia cards. If you're getting a MB that supports Crossfire and you want to run 2+ cards in the future, then it only makes sense to go with ATI GPUs. But if you want to run SLI, you need a MB that supports it.neatfeatguy

All right, makes sense. Thanks.

Second computer I've built. My first one had trouble with the HD 4870 graphics card I put in it, so I decided to try out Nvidia for this build.

Here are the guts -I haven't found a decent keyboard/mouse/monitor/case yet, so if anyone has suggestions in that area, please let me know.

EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16Ghz

ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Mobo

OCZ Reaper 4GB (2x2GB) 240 pin DDR2

Corsair 650W

Any thoughts? I know that this is roughly the power of my first build, as the only component I've switched out is the 4870 for the 260. I'd like to make it a little more powerful, if anyone has some suggestions for that as well.

Thanks for the help.

The ATI software failed to recognize a new, same series graphics card, and the fixes I found online were all slightly ridiculous. That's the only problem I've had with ATI. Other than, of course, the whole 'burned out after 4 months of light gameplay' thing.

And that didn't bother me much; I just don't want my parents to have to deal with it if something does go wrong. Thanks for the help, guys; I'll probably put a final build up on the forums for thoughts before ordering anything.

I'm building my second computer, this time for my less electronics-savvy family, and since I encountered several issues with the radeon 4870, I thought I'd see what the competition had to offer. Can anyone tell me what the closest Nvidia card is?
