Good lord people, its a business decision, get over it. If you are going to cater to a wider audience, you have to be family friendly. Having ONLY a hardcore image hurt them last gen, and family/creative games sold like crap. Even the beginning of this gen games like Kameo, Viva Pinata, Banja, etc sold poorly because of the image. Sony was smart the first 2 gens and kept the family friendly appeal, and the creative and fun games (LBP) excel because of it. Dont bash them for preparing their console (and image) for things to come. Open up your minds a bit and stop being so selfish and cynical. GEEZnavyguy21

So let me get this straight... You're saying that kissing up to a corporation and their image is the equivilant of opening up our minds? That's news to me. And again, how is what some of us are saying in the least bit "selfish"? The solution is simple here. Allow parents to turn off the ability for children to see guns on avatars if it bothers them that much, yet leave it for the rest of us. There are ways to appeal to both crowds here without screwing each either over in the name of corporate image.

By your logic, everyone opposing SOPA is "selfish" because they're not putting corporate interest first.

Is the Australian government a major Microsoft shareholder or something?

Twin-Blade

No, they just have a ton of issues with censorship there. Many games get editied before release or outright banned all together. You should read up on it some time. It's quite interesting.

[QUOTE="mems_1224"] my point about your stupid thread stands as well. mems_1224

Name calling and insulting are clearly not ways to make people take you seriously. As for it being stupid, that is your opinion which you are entitled to. You should try backing up your argument with facts instead of resorting to insulting people. Your comments have not added much to the discussion and you continue to make personal attacks without merit. Show the ability to participate in a debate without acting like a child, that is all.

lol wut? when did i call you a name? if you care this much about avatars you have issues

I was trying to make a point to you with the name calling and insulting. Granted you only did the latter. And if you are so against this thread and my posts, then why do you insist on replying to them? If you care so much about a thread on system wars, then by your logic you must have issues.

[QUOTE="AfrosRockMan"]

[QUOTE="Chris_Williams"] why do you have such a big deal with them taking away guns on your avatar? i don't understandShadowDeathX

Why? It's a matter of principle, that's all. What reason is there for them to take them away, and why should they? As I said before, what is there to be gained by doing so? It may be guns for our avatars now, but will it be something worse next time that most of us will care about? Look at online passes for example. We even have them for single player games now like Arkham City. If that keeps progressing, we might face a situation like SSFIV on the PC in it's "offline mode" as the norm for games without their online pass activated.

That is why I care, because I know how far this might go unless we do something about it.

Actually PC gamers complained a lot about the "Offline Mode" so Capcom removed that pre-release.

Oh, they did? Thanks for letting me know. And for the sake of the arguement, this just goes to show that standing and saying something can make a difference. But in any event, censorship and too much control are things that need to be avoided at all costs if we want to see this industry thrive.

[QUOTE="mems_1224"] perhaps you could create a topic that deserves a discussion instead of this BSmems_1224

I would write a long, drawn out response to what you just said, but that would be a lost cause as you haven't shown the abilty to participate in a good debate. My point about your inane comments still stands.

Perhaps you could contribute to the discussion or maybe offer a solution instead of making inane comments like "you're exaggerating" and "get over yourself dude"? Just a thought.

"I don't care either way. I just think it's funny. Parents, instead of just complaining, need to actually be parents and invest in their children's lives."

[QUOTE="Chris_Williams"] how about you stop being selfish, they took it because of kids who are on xbox live, i don't know what effect this would have but microsoft is trying to take some responsibility and do something, maybe they got alot of complaints from parents. Like i said earlier all the things that are going on in the world and you wanna sit here and complain about them taking away virtual guns from your avatar? grow up manmems_1224

Yes, I will sit here and complain about it because this does have to do with all the problems that are going on in this world. Do you want a censorship system as bad or worse than Australia's as the norm for the industry? Then go ahead an embrace this measure with open arms.

Also, how the hell is what I said "selfish" as you put it? I said how MS could merely make toggling the appearance of guns an option in parental controls so we don't have to have access restricted. That way, everybody wins... And besides, all the existing ones are still going to be here, so what's the point in the move if it's to protect kids from exposure to guns?

"Come to the PC platform instead of dealing with consoles."

The more I think about it, the more this seems like the best solution. Sure you have your problems like DRM and the like, but as long as there's a will to break free of constraints, it will be done and is always an option.
