@voreo: It's an "enthusiast" card and enthusiasts overclock everything. Overclocking is not very dangerous to the chips at all, and the people who buy these kinds of card upgrade LONG before you will see any degradation. Every piece of hardware is different they are all going to able to achieve slightly different things. When you run a chip CPU/GPU or whatever at stock you are basically just getting the guaranteed performance level which is set for the lowest common denominator (aka the bad chips). When you buy expensive hardware it kind dumb not to customize settings a little more for your specific chip and see what it is comfortable with.

That being said it looks the manufacturing process for the GTX 1080s is pretty precise there doesn't seem to be much variance between the cards coming out the fabs. Essentially at this early time it appears the manufacturing process is getting close to the same potential out of each chip. So we would say Pascel is a bad overclocker... even a lot of the fancy aftermarket PCBs being shown off at Computex aren't getting much higher clocks than the reference cards. 2100 on the core seems to be around the max at this time most cards are a bit under under that.

...But yeah don't be afraid of overclocking it's a necessary thing since all hardware if different. You could simply view it as "tuning" and forget any of the bad stories you heard. Overclocking GPUs is particularly "idiot proof" too so it's really hard to do any harm. :D

Thanks for the review. All you had to say was always online Uplay DRM and that automatically knocks 5 out of 10 points.

I'm trying to replace a Strix 970 I had to RMA and my choices were faster shipping and no advertised "Pick Your Path" promotion or the promotion advertised but slower shipping. ...I'll go for the faster shipping. (Already have the other two games from the first two cards I bought.)

I really want to go back and play The Witcher 1 again... It just requires a lot of time. I'm also reading the books now for the first time.

@Necrotron You'll never give up your 1080p 60fps... until you save up for 1440p 120fps. :D

On a serious note you should really do it... Get a cheap Korean panel if you don't have a lot of money. 1080p needs to be retired.
