Technically, playing video games for long periods of time often does not necessarily mean that you have an addiction to gaming. I play video games for several hours a day but its because I enjoy playing video games. I could very easily pull myself away from my games console if I wanted to but I enjoy playing video games and I don't have much else to be doing during the day. I play for about 4-5 hours a day. I never play at night because I lose all concentration and video games then aren't entertaining. However in his days of gaming, my older brother would play late into the night. Therefore,depending on your personality,addictive or otherwise, gaming can not be completely pinned as an addictive form of entertainment. Anyone can be addicted to alcohol or nicotine but it takes the right personality to be addicted to games. And as c0m4ndo45 pointed out, I am considered to be of the highest intelligence in my class and I find that video games help expand your mind,your imagination, and I find that games in which dialogue has to be read (e.g FFVII.FFVIII) teach better vocabulary and improves reading and linguistic skills.
