Become a Legend Mode is Broken for P.E.S 2014

User Rating: 4 | Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 PC

Ignore all the Fifa vs P.E.S arguments, initially you had your Fifa crowd for the better simulation aspect of Football, and you had P.E.S for more arcade, pick up and play aspects of the sport which for me, appealed to me more especially because of such modes like "Become a legend"

The problems pes14 has are so wide ranging, it is impossible to really talk about all of them so I'm just going to focus purely on the Become a Legend mode which I exclusively play, pes14 for me, just breaks the entire mode, it is especially tough when starting a new player. My first character I had to delete, simply because I picked the English Division and was near constantly benched being unable to play because of the characters starting rating of 63, Konami removed manager ratings which was the source for BAL modes starting lineup chances, now because there isn't any guiding stat or graph dictating your chances, I could score say 3 - 10 goals per match, it'll not affect your chances of playing in important matches, or even regular matches until your rating is at least, on par with other players in the team, assuming your pure playing rating is the deciding factor now.

Second character I created for BAL, I picked the lowest rating division possible, the Asian league and sure - my starting character does get more match chances, but the ratio is still something to skip 3 - 5 matches for each match I get into the starting line-up, no matter my performance, for me - this effectively breaks BAL mode, and there isn't even any guarantee this will even improve when my characters playing rating increases to match other players, or even become higher rated since there isn't any graphs or information, since Konami decided to dumb down this mode completely - I feel they had this mode more or less nailed down in pes13. Another thing which made this mode was your own personal manager which was removed, it was a small part of BAL mode which again, made it feel more realistic. There wasn't any reason it should have been removed.

Whilst pes2014 does have it's moments ultimately, the sheer amount of bugs and glitches that occasionally pop up also do affect the fun factor, I think switching over to the FOX engine was probably a bad idea to be honest, sure the visual graphics do look better, but the game overall plays much worst than any of the modern pes versions. The players sometimes move unrealistically or awkwardly, and the AI scripts often break as the teams seem to switch from complete idiots to super players. I've even seen completely stupid things like opposing keeper not even attempting to saves. Far too many things just seem off, not to mention no weather effects, clouds, rain - every match the same sunny day.

In a nutshell, Konami released pes2014 far too earlier and are going to pay this price this time.
