Nostalgia!

This is by far the greatest Pokemon handheld game to date. I love how you can actually explore Seafoam Islands and Cerulean Cave in this game unlike in the originals. Furthermore, the Elite Four will eventually get all new teams to give you another challenge in prep for your ultimate battle with Red on Mt. Silver. The graphics are beautiful and even the Pokeathlon is pretty fun. The parts that were redone such as the Battle for the Radio Tower were done really well and really gives a sense of epicness to those who love the crime-fighting aspect of the franchise. Walking around with your Pokemon is absolutely adorable and it's so much fun to turn around and talk to them every once in a while. The new gym layouts are incredible and returned everything great about the 1st generation games (such as traps in the Vermillion Gym and the sliders in the Viridian Gym) and improved them. The controls are now even better. Everything from the start menu has now been moved down to the touch screen to provide easy access and even the PC boxes and Pokedex are now several times easier use and more efficient in navigation. The most convenient updates yet are being able to register two Key Items (though it should have been 4 or even 6 as the L, R, Start, and Select button don't do anything in this game) and the Dowsing Machine. Finding hidden items has never been easier.

The best easter egg in the game: The GB Sound Player. Collect all 16 badges then talk to the guy in front of the globe on the 3rd floor of the Celadon Mansion and enjoy a trip down memory lane!
