Plants vs. Zombies is an excellent game from PopCap that only has one major drawback: it's way too easy.

I wasn't originally going to do a review on this, but I like to review games I get off the PSN that I feel are worth your money and your hard drive space to keep around. Plants vs. Zombies is one of those games. A survival/tower defense hybrid, this game is not only creative by design, but a heck of a lot of fun to play for hours on end.

GAMEPLAY - Basically you defend your house from zombies using plants. Sunflowers help you gather sunlight to build other plants, while other plants dish out damage, serve as walls, and some sabotage enemies that get nearby. While there is great diversity with the plants, there are also a number of different zombies you'll encounter. From disco zombies to zombies on pogo sticks to zombies who pole vault, it's just a very creative cast of both plants and zombies. Along with the allies and enemies, you also defend your house during day and night, in the backyard, front yard, and on the roof. This game just constantly gives you variety in what is very simple at first glance. Even after you beat the game, there are lots of things to do, including going through the game again with it being a little more difficult. This is just a great game that only fails from being entirely too easy. If you're familiar with tower defense or survival games, this should be a very simple game to get through. Luckily the puzzle and survival modes really put a spin on the regular game, and are a lot of fun to play also. - 9.5/10

STORY - N/A

GRAPHICS - The graphics are very good, especially for a PSN game. It's very similar to PopCap's other games, and so you shouldn't be disappointed here. - 8.5/10

SOUND - The music is very hypnotic, and the sound effects work very well here. No voice acting to speak of, but no matter. This game achieves what it needed to do here as well. - 8.5/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - Again, the main game is pretty long at roughly 40 levels. Then there are a number of puzzle, survival, and mini games that will keep you coming back for more. Not to mention the main game can be played again with increased difficulty. This is one of those games that just doesn't get old that easily. - 9/10

BOTTOM LINE - Plants vs. Zombies is a fun game that just about anyone can pick up and play. Veterans of tower defense and survival games will probably find this game to be entirely too easy, but once the extra modes are unlocked, the difficulty ramps up a bit. Veterans will probably also appreciate the diversity and how interative all of the towers can be with each other. Do yourself a favor and buy a game that will do nothing but constantly reward you. This is one of the few games that has come out in the past few months that is worth playing for everyone, no matter their skill or age. I think it's safe to say that this will be the PSN game of the year, even if it is only the first quarter of the year. - 9/10
