I'm a rather dedicated Persona fan, Atlus seldom lets me down when it produces a game. When I herd they were making a Persona 4 fighting game I was a little confused. then I learned Arc system works was helping. That news made my exited, I'm big into 2D fighter and Arc never fails to impress me in the area. So two Companies I like have come together to make a fighting game about one of my favorite games.

I was impressed with the result. Persona 4 Arena (P4A) looks great and plays great. There are plenty of modes to play, the big one for me was Story mode. The bulk of my time was spent in story mode. For those that have played Persona 3 and 4 it is likely your first hours of game play will also be spent here as well. The story pick up where P4 left of and also ties in P3. I'm not going to say much about the story itself other then it can get old as you play through it multiple time with each character. Each time you play through you do however get a new element to the overall story and learn a little more about the characters. It also seems to be setting up for the next Persona title.

Game play is smooth and easy to pick up. It reminds me of Jojo's Bizarre adventure. Two buttons control character actions and two control Persona actions while you use quater circles and other movements to pull off various combos and attacks. Like many fighters you have an energy bar for super moves. One thing I thought was neat was the ability to do Persona breaks. There is a learning mode to teach you the game along with Story, Arcade, training and online modes to play. All of wich make for a full and rich game.

The game looks great and plays well, though early on it may seem like some characters are broken. As you play you'll learn to counter this seemingly broken play. P4A is a good game to learn 2D fighters on but because of its tie in with the older Persona JRPGs the story element may go to waist on someone that has never play them or dose not care for it.
