One of the greatest games ever made!

Yes Andrew Braybrook may be a slightly dodgy eyeballed nerd who posed in front of his TR7 back in the 80s in various computer magazines but he is also the creator of some of the most sublime gaming experiences ever!

Paradroid (and Uridium) were both notable for deliciously smooth scrolling (something we all take for granted nowadays), responsive controls and incredibly addictive gameplay.

In Paradroid, your task was to infiltrate various ships in a fleet where the crew had been murdered leaving just the renegade robot crew intact. The player must take control of higher powered robots and clear each and every deck of droids before moving onto the next ship in the fleet.

Taking control of the other droids opened up a mini sub-game where the player had to outwit his opponent in a timed, and frantic, power struggle. If succesful, you then 'became' the more powerful robot for a limited time allowing you to utilize their individual skills, firepower, speed and superiority to destroy the remaining enemies.

Hours often became days and weeks when playing this game and the gorgeous graphics were backed up with moody bleeps and bloops of the robotic threats which immersed the player further into this crazy high-tech world.

The game can be found in various forms today including shareware and emulator rips and is still playable after all these years which is more than can be said for the majority of its contemporaries. If you have a spare hour, it's highly recommended to both new and old fans of the shooter genre.
