Past Time for Pac-Man

User Rating: 6 | Pac-Man NES

To be absolutely clear, this is a review for the NES release of Pac-Man. The original arcade game was released in 1980 and is an absolute classic. However, the US NES release of Pac-Man wasn't until 1993, over a decade after the arcade hit and even after a 1990 Ms. Pac-Man NES release by Tengen. The Super Nintendo was already out before this game came to the NES in the US! So, needless to say that by the time this game came out, Pac-Man's time had past.

This does deliver that classic arcade maze-crawling, dot-munching gameplay. Anybody looking for a bit of this on the 8-bit console can be confident that they will find the familiar game they are looking for here. This isn't anything like the Atari 2600 botch port of Pac-Man. However, outside of fans looking for this game, in particular, on this console, I just don't see this drawing anymore fans. Games had evolved and moved on, even the Pac-Man gameplay itself was improved with Ms. Pac-Man. The time for this game really had past.
