The iconic gameplay is back for the recent handheld and did not disappoint.
Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions includes six titles all in one game card. It includes three Pac-Man titles and three Galaga titles. The Pac-Man titles are the original Pac-Man, Pac-Man Championship Edition, and Pac-Man Tilt. The Galaga titles are the original Galaga, Galaga Legions, and Galaga 3D Impact.
These titles bring the iconic gameplay of Pac-Man and Galaga to the latest handheld. Gobbling dots and wide variety of fruits and ghosts made Pac-Man in the arcades a huge hit over 30 years ago. In Galaga you destroyed groups of enemies as they attack your fighter ship which fans enjoyed. That gameplay I just explained is back and is shown in the original titles and also Championship Edition and Legions. On the other hand, the two Nintendo 3DS exclusive titles changes things up a bit. Pac-Man Tilt brings titling to the formula make this 2D platformer unique comparing other titles of the genre. If you are having a difficult time jumping up on to a ledge, simply tilt your 3DS system to the side a bit. Galaga 3D Impact shows the original formula as now a first person shooter genre blasting familiar enemies as you avoid moon rocks coming straight at you.
Graphics for this title overall are all crisp and full of color. The 3D effect in Galaga 3D Impact really stands out and shows depth throughout the playing field. But Pac-Man Tilt does not feature the three dimensional effect due to the tilting required in the game.
Controls for this title are simple and rather easy to get use to with just the swirl of the circle pad and the tap of a few buttons on the system.
Level Designs for both of the exclusive Nintendo 3DS titles also showed depth and places you in the environment. Pac-Man Tilt offers multiple obstacles including moving platforms and cannons, which you can control both with the tilt feature. Galaga 3D Impact gives you the feel of outer space with large moon rocks mentioned before.
Sounds for all six titles are full of nostalgia for long time fans of both series. With Pac-man sounds as he is munching on dots and a ghost or two as well as in Galaga's sounds for shooting your targets brings back memories.
The replay values for this title is rather high due to there are six game titles onto one 3DS game card. Another reason is the online rankings. You may play another round of a title just to increase your score.
