A tactical game with flair and style is sometimes hard to find, but Ogre battle does both quite well.

Back in the days of the Super Nintendo, it was hard to find a lot of games that you could play for more than an hour that also had some cool graphics and animations. Ogre Battle fits into that plane with it's unique sense of characters and story.

To begin, Ogre Battle was a very hard game to find back in the 90s, so if you had the chance to play this game, you were probably one of the rare few who were able to do so. Nowadays, you're able to play this game on other platforms like on the Playstations or other venues so more people can experience this game.

Ogre Battle is unique because it is a RTS game in some senses but then in battle, it is turn based. Your objective is to stop the Empire from taking over the land, if you choose to go the good route. When you make your character, your choices will affect who you can recruit, what missions you can undertake and who you will fight. If you want to play as a horrible character, it is very unlikely any good characters will follow your lead. There are dozens of different units that can then be upgraded to other classes depending on levels, alignment, charisma and a plethora of other statistics. The game is even more complex considering there are different terrain types and also different movement types. For example, angels and ravenmen move at Low Sky. So no matter, the terrain, either it be mountain, or snow, or plains, they can move at low sky. While units that have a preference for snow, can move faster on snow, they move much slower on desert. What's even worse, some levels are floating, so units without flying armies can plunge to their doom.

Ogre Battle has a dozen endings with the best ending, the most elusive to get to. Ogre Battle has so many maps and different ways to get to it, that the ability to replay the game is quite high and have a different experience every time.

The colours of the characters are all quite sharp and when they attack, you can almost feel the action. You can also play tarot cards and items that attack enemies or heal your mean or boost your agility.

The sounds of the game are quite standard but it never misses a beat. The music is addictive but can get quite straining if you listen to it over and over again.

I recommend playing this game and a total steal at 20 dollars for the SNES.
