Ninja Gaiden has to be, in my opinion the best NES game ever developed.

The history of the NES was a pretty long one. Looking back now, I can truely say that my favorite game on it was Ninja Gaiden. I actually had a reserve of this game months before it came out, and I remember the day I picked it up. I really enjoyed the arcade version of it, and expected it to be the same, but I was plesantly suprised. The NES version of NG was a side scrolling game that had a storyline to it. Ryu, part of a dying clan of ninjas is left with a note from his father, pretty much telling him to take a rare sword made from a dragon tooth, and a weird demon statue to a man named Dr. Smith. As Ryu does this he meets up with a colorful cast of characters such as Irene, an agent of the FBI or CIA, or something like that, Foster a CIA director, Dr. Smith, and even the baddy of the game the Jaquio. To this day I am still unsure if The Jaquio was male or female, but the text said he, and him, so i'm assuming. The gameplay was side scrolling, and all you had was your sword and other special weapons so it was a challenge. The special weapons were items such as boomerange shurikens, a spin attack, small shurikens. As you progressed through the levels you would be introduced to cut scenes that further progressed the story line. The graphics were pretty good for a game like this, and the sounds were a little better. The sounds may have been weird thuds and so on, but one memorable part of the sounds was the music. The music wasn't even repeptitive, but more along the lines of music you would be humming later. Ninja Gaiden brought out 2 sequels on the NES and a revamed version on the XBOX, but none of those will ever tarnish the memories of playing Ninja Gaidem. If you go to pick up any classics, this should be the first cartridge you pick up.
