Not great as NG2 but still it is way better than NG3

User Rating: 8 | Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge X360

If you had and played Ninja Gaiden 3 before, you should try this out. Ninja Gaiden 3 was more like a fast-tracked game. More like Ninja Gaiden 2's alpha version. Poor AI, button mashing, easier difficulty and poor content. As if the game was just developed for its multiplayer section (I haven't played the multiplayer but the developers focused on it more than the single player).

After 1 year, Razor's Edge finally makes Ninja Gaiden 3 a real Team Ninja game. The game is just like Ninja Gaiden 2 but with some new game mechanics like Steel on Bone skill where you dodge and counter attack a lethal enemy attack and killing it instantly which allows you to mow down even more enemies with one hit. This time the enemies are smart and ruthless. You must keep evading the attacks and try not to make yourself surrounded by enemies. Some boss fights are long, annoying and frustrating. It can even break the games pacing.

Some areas require you traverse by performing falcon dive by jumping off from a high area or climbing straight walls with the kunai. It adds some diversion to the game rather than kill, move on, kill, move on etc. Only the underwater combat and traversing is absent.

Just like previous Ninja Gaiden games you can now unlock skills and upgrade your character by earning Karma points. You unlock new weapons and health increase by collecting Golden Scarabs scattered throughout the game. There are also Crystal Skulls which challenges you to an arena fight where you have to survive the onslaught to fight with a unique boss in order to earn more Karma points. It adds some replay value the game and gives some diverse activities in the game.

You get some new levels such as playing with Ayane with its own unique missions, cutscenes and gameplay. Once you clear the game, you have the chance to play the entire game with either Ayane, Momoji and guest star Kasumi.

With all these new content and game changes, Razor's Edge does make Ninja Gaiden 3 a decent game. Team Ninja should have developed and released this game last year rather than making the fans to rebuy the game for its fixed version.

The story follows up its lore but gets really absurd in some places. The cutscenes have great choreography but some may look cheap and silly. Voice acting is a bit simple so it is recommended to turn on the Japanese voice acting. Other than that, this game will please its fan with its rich and redefined gameplay and content. If you are a casual gamers, avoid it since the difficulty is not fair.
