NHL '94 for the Genesis itself was a great game in its own right, but this could honestly only be called an upgraded version. The enhanced sound made this the first time a sports game really made me feel like I was in the arena, especially given the SEGA CD's capability to be hooked to your stereo, which mine was. The opening was like nothing offered before, with snippets of great plays interspersed with logos of all the teams flying across the screen. The gameplay graphics were the same as the cartridge. The controls were the same as for all other previous incarnation of EA's NHL franchise, so you could pop in the game and play without really needing an instruction book. This is the game that gave you the first glimpse of just how great sports games would look today.
