One of the best hockey games of all time!

In a day and age where graphics can matter more then anything else, NHL 94 on the Sega CD for me is still the king of hockey games. Graphically it's not impressive but functional. Good old sprites are all you get in this game but they work, they are all you need. Most of the in game sound is a bit better like the checking and shooting sounds, but where the game really stands out sound wise is the CD quality sound. You will find yourself humming the theme in no time. The organ music is really good and the crowd is a real recording. Game play in NHL 94 for the Sega CD is where this game really shines, you don’t have a pile of options but most people have played this game more then they can even remember. You have shootout, playoffs, and regular season. Hook up a multi-tap and you and 3 of your friends can play. This is where NHL 94 is the best, new hockey games have 4 or more player support but the games play way too fast so you have a hard time setting up passes with your human teammate, in 94, a bit of practice and you will be setting up plays like you have been doing it all your life. Manual goalie is a real help as the computer AI on the goalie is well, crappy. I don’t like playing a hockey game without it because in my opinion, the goalie is the most important player in the game of hockey, why leave him/her out? I recommend you pick up this game if you still have an old Sega CD lying around; it’s very worth it. Most people I know have got their money’s worth out of this game many times over. Yeah, it doesn’t have a lot of options but most new hockey games do have lots of options but the part of the game, the actual action part is not very realistic or fun. If you want a game that is packed with good game play and excellent multi-player, pick up this title.
