NHL 2001 was one of the first games i played on PS2 i was still with my family at that time and we were playing together with my friends with the PS1 Version Just prior to that i picked up a copy of the PS2 Version of this game because i wanna to get the same experince with better graphics in this regard the game delivered as a hockey game nhl gives us amazing plays a strategy that i offtend use in the game is focusing on bulding momentum rather then scoring you built momentum by taking shots on goal and by hiting other players i usually play a very defensive game by repeatedly sending the puck to my opponents side on the ice and then hiting everything that moves once i have the momentum i can usually explode to hammer out shot after shot I Choose NHL 2001 for this review because they tried to get too cute with the later versions of the games For Example: in NHL 2002 the game gives you a short cutscene graphic when you check somebody really hard on the boards this looks nice but it contracks from the rythim of the game and can disropt the play that your trying to make! in edition when you attempt a breakaway NHL 2002 also gives a special breakaway cam that once again disropt your chance on the goal! finally the annoucers in 2002 are simply over the top with the jokes in commentary and it is a distraction to the game If I Want Jokes special graphics and NFL Blitz kinda game maybe ill get more entertaining NHL HITZ in buying a EA Game Im looking for a pure hockey experince no crap just hockey! This game also has a player creater thing that Lets you to put yourself into the game You can set the characteristics of your player and the game comes pre loaded with varaity of first names so that the annoucers will call you by that name as possible the biggest draw back of this game is the lack of online play but thats to be expected for a game of this vintage if you online play you will have to start with NHL 2004 or later NHL is a Sports Game If you enjoy sports games and liked hockey insted of everybody else and you really go get this game theres no point of breaking a shot though just remember that the rule for sports games is the same for a rule against cars Great game 8.5
