Gamespot's rating was spot on. While it is a great game, it is far from perfect.

User Rating: 8.5 | NHL 10 X360
I have owned this game since it came out. However, I could not give this game a fair rating until I played enough online as well as offline.
The game does offer a variety of game play scenarios such as Be a Pro, Be a GM, season, playoff, tournament, as well as good online multiplayer options. The only mode I play is the Be a Pro and while having problems at first, I find it easier to play now. The key to playing online be a pro is to play with people you enjoy playing with. Eventually teammates do click, so patience will be needed when playing with teammates.
The game is also fairly low scoring meaning that goals that work almost all the time in NHL 09 won't work as often in NHL 10. Don't get me wrong, it is still easy to score wrist shots from the slot and from a wrap around, and one-timers, but that is provided the defense (AI or Human) has a brain cramp and allows the shots to be taken. The low scoring games makes it easier for any team to win as well. The only problem with low scoring games, it may turn into a match of "who can successfully use a game exploit first to win"
Gamespot gave the rating dead on for this game. It ain't perfect, but it sure is a great game and lots of fun to play. 8.5 is my rating.
