Some great additions over NHL 09, but still, not as good...

NHL 10 is a great game, but it feels like it could have been so much more. There are some great additions in this year revision. The boards play for instance is really nice. But overall, I think NHL 09 was better than NHL 10.

One thing that is a let down is the "Be a Pro" mode. I thought it was better in the previous version. You can get promoted and demoted very quickly. For example, you can be the #1 scorer in the league, but if you do not score a point in two consecutive games, you could be demoted down a line.

More importantly, I think the game play could be improved. Also, this game does not need any more game modes (Be a Pro, Be a NHL Pro, etc.). What it needs are new things like practice modes for break-away (not just letting you loose on the goalie, but actually teaching you how to deke), special arenas (outdoors for example).

One last thing... I think EA Sports has been using the same engine for this game for at least 3 years now. Since the customers are paying full price for this game, would it not be time to update the graphics engine? I think so.
