Ok, I'm not one for football games. I've never done well in games like Madden or whatnot. But, I enjoyed NFL Blitz, so I figured I should rent this game. I did, and I eventually bought it. Why? Well, because its fun to play, and its easy to pick up. You don't need a huge background in football to play this game. My friend hates football, but will always challenge me to this game when I'm over his house. And, sometimes he wins. You don't have to be a fan of football to enjoy this game. One of the things that stands out in this game is that you have seven players on the field. I'm pretty sure in real football, you are supposed to have eleven. This make for a much more intense game, as you have less players on your hand. Another interesting aspect of the gameplay is that your o-line is your d-line. Yep, your quaterback is going to be on the d-line. This makes it more interesting, especially when making your own team, as you must be aware that each of your players has to be on both sides of the ball. The gameplay in general is quite fun. On offense, you pick a play, and go with it. Or you can choose an audible, like in most football games. When your play is in motion, you can hold down the style button, and, depending on what you are doing at the time, you can do a "special move", and gain style points to your Gamebreaker. If the quarterback has the ball, and you throw the ball holding down the style button, you will do a "trick throw", such as a behind the back throw, or the no look toss. While running with the ball, you can perform a trick juke, to break away from a would be tackler. On defense you can do this as well, only the moves aren't as interesting. You can do a "power tackle", which sometimes knocks the ball out of the runner. The aspect of the Gamebreaker makes for an interesting game. Once you reach a certain style point total, you earn a Gamebreaker. You can activate this on both sides of the ball. On both sides, your team becomes faster, stronger, and better, basically. The Gamebreaker stops once you score, or possession changes. There is nothing better in this game to score on your opponent during their defensive Gamebreaker. It can be done, but its very hard. Bragging rights are assumed, rightfully so. The graphics are great, players looking like their NFL counterparts. They don't have authentic NFL uniforms, but they do have their logos on basketball shirts, sweatpants, and shoulder pads. The fields look great, although none of them are actual "fields", persay. One is on the beach, one in a factory, one on a rooftop, etc. Both the player and field's look help to convey a "street" attitude that is constant throughout the game. The sound of this game is also great. You can customize the music in the menus, but the ingame soundtrack is static. However, the music in game is great for the game. I love one of the Gamebreaker tracks, myself. Sound effects are sweet, all of the hard-hitting sounds of the game are all done well. The value of this game is also large, strictly because of the multiplayer. This game is a great game to play for its single-player, where you can increase the stats of your team, unlock tons of new clothing, new stadiums, and teams, but where this game is strongest is its multiplayer. Like I said before, its a great game to play with anyone, even one who doesn't particularly enjoy football. All in all, this a great game to play, and I cannot wait for NFL Street Vol. 2. It should be just as good, if not, hopefully better than, this already great game. I would recommend anyone who would want to play a fast-paced football game who is used to NFL Blitz.
