It takes awhile for you to start enjoying this game. For some, perhaps a really long while. But you eventually do!

User Rating: 8.5 | Neverwinter Nights 2 (CD-ROM) PC
I had NWN2 rated at 7.5 for the longest time, when in my first playthrough I found it really boring and far inferior compared to both its baldur's gate and NWN1 precursors. And when the game bugged out on me about 10 hours in, and I lost all my saves, I simply gave up.
It took over a year before I found the heart to pick this game up again, promising myself I would see it through this time. As with before, the many flaws of the game are immediately apparent: your allies are equipped with mindnumbingly dumb AI; the opening plot is painfully slow and unfocused; the camera controls are wholly inept, and the character interface is only slightly better; and the game is brutally hard at the very start even on normal difficulty - at least if your main character is a fledgling wizard like mine.
However, this time I persevered. Even as the bugs cropped up again, and I was forced to spent painstaking hours installing patch after patch after patch, or having to revert several save files to do something differently. This is fair warning to all who play this game: expect your latest save to bug out at least twice in your playthrough.
But after all this, the game finally delivers - and let it be said that the whole forgotten realms RPG franchise was never one for the most casual gamers who would be unwilling to put in all this time and make all this effort. Without spoiling any plot from the game, let me just say that if you can make it to Act II, NWN2 becomes a joy to play. The plot picks up pace and significance, combat turns from a chore into a joy as you bombard the plethora of enemies with your equally impressive arsenal of spells and weaponry, and you find yourself anticipating each new level and the upgrades it will bring...
In short, the time I put trying to get this game to work was well worth it, and NWN2 eventually becomes - as the developers claim - the ultimate DnD roleplaying experience. However, for anyone looking to get into the game, I offer three important pieces of advice to save you much of the toils I had to go through:

1. Patch to the latest version!

2. Save constantly and in different slots.

3. Play the first 5-10 levels on easy and try to get through the introduction and first act ASAP.
