Need for Repair
This game is made by the development team black box who did undercover and boy does it show. The games gameplay mechanic is ripped right out of the 80s i.e. trial and error. For instance, you can be travelling at 200mph and suddenly a police car or two will pull out in front of you, giving you no time to swerve around them resulting in a rewind to the last checkpoint, highly annoying! For a game that has its premise as a cross country race, it seems a little odd that if you veer even slightly off road the game resets back to the last checkpoint again highly annoying, because someimtes youll be travelling at high speed being buffeted from other racers all whilst having to avoid police etc and the game penalises you for trying to avoid these situations and keep on time by going a little off road and im not joking a metre off road and it resets.
Another related bugbear is oncoming traffic, so you get extra boost fro driving on the wrong side of the road and then eventually a car comes your way so you do the only thing you can do and switch to the right side of the road but guess what, invariably that side of the road is blocked too, you cant go slightly off road because of the reset problem, so what happens? Thats right you crash and reset, it doesnt matter how skillful you are you will crash and you will only just make it to the checkpoints. Its as if the game is running a certain way and will not allow for real time deviations brought on by player interaction.
Now i dont like disrespecting developers but Black box need to be sacked by EA, the utter durge they trot out is laughable. Also considering this time theyve had 2 years developement time considering Criterion are doing by yearly now, just like the development sharing Call of duty has. However treyarch are a zillion times better than black box are. Yes the Graphics are impressive occasionally, running as it does on the frostbite 2 graphics engine but this does not excuse the game shattering gameplay mechanics on show in this title.
All of the above is shamefully put in place to make you replay sections over and over because the career mode is little over 2 (two) hours long, yes your not seeing things thats 2 hours! elongate that to 3 to 4 with multiple resets.
The multiplayer is maybe its saving grace but only just.......maybe buy Forza 4 or stick with last years hot pursuit, as both are vastly superior to this poorly made durge.
