Released: December 2000

Game Genre: Stock Car Racing

Opening Thoughts:
After fluking with NASCAR Racers and Nicktoons Racing (both for the Gameboy Color), Majesco Games teamed up with Game Titan to make an all-new racing game…NASCAR Heat.

Gameplay
The gameplay is a little rough, but NASCAR Heat wins my award for the best sports game to hit the GBC. Where Madden NFL, NFL Blitz, FIFA, Allstar Baseball, and International Superstar Soccer all failed miserably, NASCAR Heat uses as much of the GBC it can without sucking.

To be honest, NASCAR Heat is one of the smallest GBC games out there. I think that after trying to fancy up their previous two games, Majesco decided to take another route and developed a simple, yet fun to play game.

There are only a few racers to pick from, and they are Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt, Terry Labonte, Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett and Jeff Burton.

Races are small and complicated, but easy to get used to. Because of the GBC’s tiny screen, there’s only a little bit of the track shown, but a nice little arrow points you in the right direction, and there’s also a little map at the bottom. Thanks, Majesco…you finally get the idea. The part that gameplay lags in is just plain difficulty. Even with the arrow and the map, it’s still easy to get off track, or mistakenly go into the pits, which you actually need to do quite often. Just an average game, but the best sports game for the GBC yet.

Graphics
Gross.

Durability
Somewhere smack dab in the middle of the road. It’s just a game to play when you’re bored and have nothing else to do, but it doesn’t suck and so there’s actually a playable factor to it.

Controls: Typical controls for a racing game, A is accelerate, B is brake and the D-Pad moves.
