PS1 Review - Great
Firstly , The game is undeniably built for Speed which is after all what you would expect from a bike racing title , However the developers have also paid a lot of attention into how they can build each track to really compliment the speed of the bikes . The track layout has been purposefully created for speed with simple bends and long straights , Sometimes the speed can almost feel a little too fast as you find yourself approaching corners which sometimes require the brakes , This at times catches you off guard as the brakes are very rarely needed during a race and you mostly find yourself cruising around tracks at great speeds without worrying too much about a strategy for each corner in the game , This type of fast paced fluent gameplay gives the game a great arcade like experience . I would compare this game to outrun 2 in terms of gameplay and emphasis on speed , Even the graphics have the same bright and vibrant style with colourful and interesting locations , The moto courses are also a lot of fun and very creative in terms of level design , One of my favourites is the great wall race , How many games can you race across the great wall of china on a dirt bike?
Controls are simple and as mentioned before only a few buttons are really ever needed in fact the simple style controls are exactly what you need in a game which you will spend mostly racing at full speed.
I have played Moto Racer 2 and i didn't enjoy the game as much as this title , The track layout was not as good and speed concept broken because of the amount of tight knit turns and small roadways which would result in collisions into the barriers which drastically slow your bike down , Also just the environments were not as fun and imaginative as Moto racer 1 .
Overall i would say if your looking for a fast arcade racing experience for ps1 this game is probably one of the best titles available for ps1 , Also luckily the game has not hit mass retro status just yet so you can still find a used game for cheap if you have a look around , Have fun!!!
