Mortal Kombat has always been very harshly critisized for their portable games. Until MK Deadly Alliance, every game has been refered to as a disaster. I really don't know why. MK II for the gameboy plays the same as on the consoles, but onviously, a few custs have had to be made. Now you only have 8 characters, 1 boss and 2 hidden charecters. The number of back grounds has also been cut. You only have 2 (The Komabt Tomb and The Pit II) and a redone Goro's Lair for you to fight Jade and Smoke. Suprisingly, all of the moves are in the game. After cutting back on the number of buttons, you now have one kick and punch button, the configuration was obviously cahnged. The good news is, they didn'y cjange it too much. If a move was originally front, front, low kick, the low kick was replaced with kick. It makes learning the moves much easier. The graphics are about what you;d expect from an original Gameboy game. there are no colours, even if you play on a GBC. Still, it's pretty easy to tell what's what, and what's happening. The frame rate, however, is pretty slow. if you're uppercutted, you go from stanting to lying in about 10 frames. The sound is pretty bad. You have one electronic, repetitive song for music, and basic bips and blips fro the effects. It would have been much better if they had just left out the music and put in some real grunts. MK II is perfect to kill time on trips. It plays and feels just like MKII, even with the lack of colour and characters. It's not the most fun I've ever had, but you can still have some good times with it.
