Liu Kang is dead

User Rating: 5.7 | Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance GC
This is a very big change in the Mortal Kombat formula. I guess they had to change, Mortal Kombat was history. The game starts of with a intro-movie in which Liu Kang, the embodiment of the old MK, is killed.
Each character now has three different fighting styles including a weapon, jumping is not very effective and each character has it's own moves. You'll have to invest some time to learn to play with a certain character and most people will not. There is a tutorial mode that learns you the moves. Finishing this mode demands a lot of your finger-reflexes, it's very difficult. The music is not very special, the graphics are nice though and the oriental scenery remins you that you are playing Mortal Kombat. There are a bunch of new characters, some of whom are very cool. There's Kenshi the blind samurai (like Rutger Hauer in the movie "Blind Fury" and Bo Rai Cho a"drunken master" who has a bark-move which is funny. Also there is a lot to unlock which is nice for MK-veterans like myself. Still, the new gameplay is so-so and gets boring pretty fast. In the end that's what matters.
