This game literally does everything it sets out to do. Yes, it's very similar to last year, but being that last year's version was great, should that be a negative thing? It does baseball and it does baseball well. I absolutely love this series and although it only improves minimally each year - it improves nonetheless.
Now, let me attempt to be objective. I guess online play can be better. Also, Diamond Dynasty doesn't quite do it for me. Besides that, series battles NBA 2K for top honors in sports simulations period. It's close to perfection and I'm of the mindset that one shouldn't mess with perfection.
