Wow! This is the first sports game I have played on my PS2 in 3 years...It is close to being the best console bb game...

User Rating: 9.1 | MLB 06: The Show PS2
The first thing that had drawn me to MLB 2006 were the graphics. The smooth animations, the player models and the transition animations are incredible. This game has pumped life back into my PS2. While I wait for 2K6 for the 260 to roll out, I thought I would give MLB a shot. With 989's brutal past, I had to see what MLB was all about. Trust me, if you enjoy console baseball games, this is a must buy. It plays like real baseball. Is it better than MVP? In some ways, yes.

MLB incorporates the pitching meter grown popular by the MVP series. The hitting -- same as MVP. The graphics, on the other hand, are a touch better. The only item that I found frustrating is that when you fielder picks up a ground ball, there is some lag in the controls. Not too much to hinder gameplay but it can make a sure out a close call.

MLB also incorporates many gamer options (homer derby, season, franchise, etc.). The create-a-player option is well done however editing of current players is limited to equipment and attributes. You cannot change the false name used for Barry Bonds' character to Barry Bonds. He looks and plays like Barry, just without being able to get named Barry.

In regards to sound, some of the best. You will hear crowd chants, organ music and a solid three-man commentary that rivals 2K's football glory days. The commentary is spot on and the presentation is deep. You will be amazed.

Overall, MLB is not perfect but it is about as close to perfect that you can get with a baseball game. Although the PS2's lifespan may be running short with the PS3 around the corner, if you want to pick up a great baseball game at a decent price ($39.99), MLB is the ticket.
