Running on a Razor's Edge

This game was another one of those supprises that despite running under the radar, I was able to pick up on my scope, and I really like it. What make this game go the distance are the fact it has combined two generes, platform action and first person and proves not just both can make a beautiful combo but that you can still do more with both generes.

The graphics I think our excellent, I really love how they make the future city which has a sort of euripean new wave art style to it, giving the game sort of a real and unreal feel to it. I really love the cut scenes and the character animation which look like something out of a graphic novel. The one character that stands out of course is Faith, whom is fraking hot and with persona to boot, she's basically your typical rebel and fiery feisty type which is my favorate type of girl. Even like the voice actress that plays her, her acting is spot on but most importantly fits the character. I like the dytopian backdrop concept of the furture world on information becoming restricted/controlled reminds me of the one from the graphc novel series "DMZ" by Brian Wood, it's a plasuable concept that could happen.

The music is soild, I wouldn't say there are a lot of memorable tracks. The only tracks that I feel are memorable are the chase sequences which are a slightly rapid techno beat I find exciting and just helps get your heart pumping, almost reminds me of the music in the film "Run Lola Run".

The story is decent, it's a typical frame up conspiracy plot. But really by it's nature it's really just a clothes line. Because this game let's face it we're really in it for the action and this game really does have some great action. Like any platformer it's the typical task of getting from point A to B but it's really a matter of how you get their that make the game interesting and exciting. The control on the game is soild, constantly running and jumping felt natural in this game. I really love how the game really teaches you to utilize your enviorment as well as correct physics in running and jumping.

It's not too hard but it's not too easy, there are some puzzle platforming moments. Which do slow the game down a bit but that's because in those moments their the one's you have to take your time and think how to get from point A to B. Which really cause you to streach those physics out.

My favorate sequences no doubt are the chase sequences which are just exciting. They just always get my heart pumping and exilerated running, climbing, and jumping off rooftops like superhero "Daredevil" hopefully if they ever make a video game adaptaion of that character it might be a little like this game. Anyway, what make the experience all the more exciting is that it really makes you think on your feet, you really have to think mere seconds to get as far away from your pursuers as possible, you really can't afford to take your time or your dead.

It's true it can be easy at time to make a mistake, but that's because the game is a matter of trial and errior much like the "Prince of Persia" franchise, you can't always expect to get it right the first time around. So the came causes you to practice till you get it right or to find alternatives if your old method doesn't work.

There is combat which I think is decent. You can punch, kick, jump kick, slide kick, and disarm. And you can disarm and use the gun on your opposition if you want. But this is something your rare do and is in fact the last thing you want to do; unlike most first person game where your armed and have no choice but to fight here your really trying to avoid fighting so you can continue running toward you objective; this I I think is an interesting spin and a good message on having the options of flight or fight.

The only bad things are there are certain points in the puzzle platforming that come off a bit too tricky for it's own good, not to say I wasn't able to get though it but it really caused some unnessesary slowdown. Another is the story I don't really find memorable, it just feels generic and cleche like something I've seen in dozens of other suspense thrillers. But like I said we're really in this game for the action so I can't really complain too much.

Overall this is a very good game that is worth a run.
