A new twist on an old favorite... But I'd reccomend sticking with the old favorite.

The first pinball game I ever played on a handheld was pokemon pinball, back when I still had a gameboy color. That was one of my favorite games at the time. Well, after so much time spent without a handheld pinball game, I thought I was starved for one. Bottom Line: Mile High Pinball is not a very warm welcome back to the genre.

The whole concept of the game is original, but feels a little lacking. Basically, you start out on ground level of the jungle, and work your way up through increasingly challenging sets of levels introducing different themes, ending up in outer space. You keep flipping your ball higher and higher, and your ball just keeps progressing. The Flaw with this concept is that if your ball falls through the bottom of the level, it goes back to the previous level. This can make things very frustrating. Each level is unique and different in the sense that none of them look exactly the same, but they all feel very repetitive. None of the levels are anything like a real pinball machine, either. Although the game has some downsides, one of the interesting features of this game is that you can pick the color of your ball, and that will be your ball until you decide other wise.

There’s also a system of powerups. This is where it strays from being a traditional pinball game, and kind of for the worse. It’s got powerups that allow you to double and triple your point intake, play with more than one ball, among others. You can also earn money and buy more powerups. Although this is original, it never feels like it’s going anywhere, and the powerups don’t last very long. The learning curve is simple, and you can get the hang of it in just minutes. The controls are very easy. All you have to do is press left to activate the left flipper, and 5 to activate the right flipper.

As far as pinball games go, I don’t think the graphics could be many better. 2D or 3D, pinball is still fun, and something as insignificant as graphics really shouldn’t make a difference if it’s a good game. The sound is ok for the most part, but you just cant shake that “This is totally a Cell phone game” feeling. It’s got some sweet sounds mixed in here and there like lightning bolts, and rain effects, things like that. Among these, it always sounds a little blurry, like you’re playing on a phone that was made 4 years ago….Oh wait, you are!

As long as the game maintains the feeling of playing a pinball game, it’s cool. But a huge amount of the levels are ridiculously easy puzzles. I can’t stress enough how annoying this can get.

Overall, this game can be pretty cool if you’re interested in a new twist on an old favorite. I wouldn’t recommend it to any serious gamer though. It’s decent for the most part, but anyone who plays this for more than 20 minutes at a time will probably never want to touch the game again, or even look at another NGAGE for that matter.
