Why should I buy it? Why not?!

User Rating: 9.5 | Metal Slug Anthology PSP
Metal Slug is special; there's a complicated story, but you don't need to know any of it; every game is the same, but still entertaining; most of all, it's difficult, but you always come back for more. Control is responsive, you can also customize the button layout. You can use either the analog stick or the directional pad, just a matter of preference. Visuals are outstanding with three settings for the screen ratio. The middle selection being the best as it fills the screen enough without blur, like with wide screen. Sound is just as it should be, but there is a common delay in most of the games, I haven't experienced it in Metal Slug 6. Sound isn't important with this title though, I usually play with the sound off. If there's one thing that slaps the anthology, it's loading. Every game takes a bit for it to load, and 2 - 5 even have load between selecting characters. 6 actually has no load between characters, but the initial load for the game itself can be long. Specific load times vary throughout the games; some being between stages, others being just between areas in a single mission. Brief freeze may occur in a stage, but it's easier to overcome than slowdown, which actually was not present besides Metal Slug 2. For me Metal Slug and Metal Slug 6 play the best out of the collection. Both have had the least in game load and less mid level freezes. But as I've mentioned, the initial start up of 6 is long. Is this collection worth your money? you bet it is, it may have the loading issues, but think of how many games you're getting for the price of one. I would have paid just for the first Metal Slug, but now I have all seven of the 2D games. I can actually appreciate some of these titles more now that they're in portable form, and I can play them anywhere. The loading may take awhile, but it's worth the wait. It's easier to deal with than slowdown during play.
