Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is one of the best games around for the Playstation 2

User Rating: 9.5 | Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater PS2
Fans of the series will recognize the similar style used in this game but some may be surprised to find some additional features such as blending in with camouflage, curing yourself from serious injuries and even eating to maintain stamina. This time around, you won't be playing as Solid Snake from past Metal Gear Solid games. Instead, you will be playing as Naked Snake, also known as Big Boss. Big Boss is, in a way, Solid Snake's father. Solid, Liquid and Solidus Snake were all cloned from Big Boss. But that all happens after this game takes place. The equipment you use in this game is different too. Mainly because this game takes place in 1964 and a lot of stuff wasn't invented yet. One major thing a lot of people have noticed is that there is NO radar. But once you get used to it, everything is fine. And for fans of the series, yes the cardboard box is still around and this time it can be used in a very smart way if you need to get somewhere. As I mentioned above, the gameplay is similar to past Metal Gear Solid games, the only major differences are the new features. Although there has been a minor change to the camera so that you can adjust it using the right analog stick. Apart from that and the new additional features, you will still find yourself hiding behind walls and looking for a place to hide while the alert passes. And with a stamina bar, you will need to stop to grab a bite once in a while. Metal Gear Solid 3 is set in a jungle this time, although there are some buildings you will need to infiltrate throughout the game. So no more taking on an entire enemy structure. You can climb trees, hunt snakes along with many other animals such as birds, frogs, fish and the list goes on. If you are fussy about graphics then have no fear, Snake Eater produces some of the best graphics on the Playstation 2 to date. One tiny thing you may notice is that the frame rate isn’t as good as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. For obvious reasons though, considering how much is put into a single disc this time. If you have a PAL copy of the game then you may find some more extras after you beat the game once. These extras are Demo Theatre, Duel Mode and European Extreme, along with some new, but useless, facepaints. The Metal Gear Solid series have come a long way, from Metal Gear back in 1987, to Metal Gear Solid in 1998, to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty in 2001, and now, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Simply the best of the best. I recommend that if you haven’t played the previous games then you should. Even if you play Snake Eater, you will still be hungry for some more Metal Gear Solid so there are many opportunities for you to become a true Metal Gear Solid fan. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is one of the best games around for the Playstation 2. Not only in terms of excellent graphics but also the sheer gameplay. This game is a must play.
