This is the first total war game I purchased and im no expert in the series, im sure people who adore the series will disagree with my brief review but for anyone else..

Im a fan of the civilsation games, medieval history and have played a variety of RTS as well as turn based strategy games.

I found this game to be summarised as follows :-

1/ The campaign map is overly complex without sensilble reason to be, to random and inferior to civ or similar empire builders.

2/The battles will really suit a micromanager but I just didnt find them fun , I enjoyed more the historic battle / tutorial story than actually fighting them.

3/By being so closely linked to history it loses any sandbox feel.

The control and camera system didnt feel to intutive to me and the delay in units responsding to instructions can be confusing.

The postive aspects are the volume of factions and nicely represented units with real attention to detail. The presentation of the battle of hastings in the tutorial was fantastic but I simply lost interest once in the campaign map wondering if I really want to do all this management just to relive similar battles over and over
