Brilliant shooting game for the PSP. Fun, engaging, and very enjoyable... On most fronts...

User Rating: 8.5 | Medal of Honor Heroes PSP
Medal of Honor: Heroes is everything you could want from a PSP first-person shooter game. The gameplay is brilliant and after taking about 30-60 minutes to master the controls they become pretty intuitive and very easy to use. This is the first PSP version of MoH and it includes almost everything that made the PC/PS1/PS2 games so enjoyable – great single player campaign, enjoyable single player deathmatch options, lots of unlockable content and stat tracking, and not forgetting multiplayer modes.

The singleplayer mission-based portion of the game is brilliantly done, with fifteen missions in total, five for each of the three countries - Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium. You can select a difficulty setting from Green, Veteran or Heroic. The difficulty you choose will have serious consequences on the tactics you will have to use in-game, in Green and Veteran modes it is possible to run-and-gun through most levels if you wish, although Heroic mode will require you to be very patient and vigilant to succeed. The missions themselves are noticeably short (5-15 minutes approximately) this boils down to the simple fact that this is the PSP, so gaming on the go. You can replay any mission a number of times to try to gain a better medal, and increase your rank, therefore unlocking new items for single-player skirmish, and multiplayer modes.

The multiplayer aspect of the game is like marmite, you either love it or you hate it, and I'm sorry to say, but I really hate it sometimes. There are an unbelievable amount of hackers, cheaters and exploit-users, and half the time it is physically impossible to play, let alone enjoy. However, if you manage to find a fair server to join, with players looking for fun and enjoyment, then this game can be a blast online, like I said though, only if you can find the rare and elusive fair matches.

The graphics are decent, which is good enough for me, reminiscent of the brilliant Allied Assault's graphics (PC). The sounds are all excellent too.

MoH:H is a title you should play if you are at all interested in shooting games. The single player options are engaging and will keep you occupied for a long time. The multiplayer may either make, or break this game for you. This is handheld warfare at its finest.

(Look out, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 review coming soon.)
