Spiritual predecessor to Age of Wonders, Microprose does not disappoint.
Master of Magic serves as a significant piece of nostalgia for the strategic genre, even with the success of Master of Orion before it, it was just as popular.
Gameplay: As simple and straightforward as Master of Orion, you can play as fast or as slow as you want, though some of the diplomacy is more pointless, it's pretty much last player standing. Simple point-and-click interface, research spells, build armies, and upgrade cities. Still very addicting and easy to pick up and play for any amount of time.
Sound: Two years after MOO and there is still lack of sound, no music, sounds are generic.
Graphics: Simple VGA tile set, nothing special. The opening intro movie feels dated, even for 1995. Enough color to keep things interesting.
Bottom Line: Lack of sound and dated graphics aside, it's still one of the most addicting strategy games out there. But if you had a choice, play Age of Wonders, it feels like more complete version of Master of Magic.
